Hi, We are planning to visit Talaimannar in next month. I just want to know, if we take the train would it be easy? Talaimannar dock, Adam's bridge and the lighthouse are located it walking distance? Or do we need to get a tuk tuk? Can you please recommend a good affordable place to stay over there?

Talaimannar old pier (dock) and lighthouse are within walking distance from the railway station. However, if sunny it's better to take a taxi (tuk tuk). Pier and lighthouse are guarded by the Sri Lanka Navy, and the two places are close to each other. Adam's bridge is not a bridge - it is an island formation consisting of 14 little sand collections 7 of which belong to Sri Lanka and the rest to India. It is possible to visit some on the Sri Lankan side in a boat with Navy permission. There is hardly any accomodation in Talaimannar other than the Thalsevena managed by the Sri Lankan Army. It has very spacious family rooms. However, those rooms are a bit pricey. You may have a look at the pictures I have posted on Google. There are a number of guest houses /hotels in Mannar. If you are going to travel a lot it is best to rent a self drive vehicle though hard to find.
Cheepest, comfortable and fastest mode of transportation from Anuradhapura to Talaimannar and from Kandy to talaimannar?

Anuradhapura to T. Mannar is easy by Train But Kandy to T. Mannar by train is bit complicated. Better to get an intercity bus from Kandy to Anuradhapura and then travel by train. However, the train trip is not the best to explore this area. You cannot find hiring vehicles at T. Mannar and that is usually an isolated place with a big Navy base. Recomend you to hire a vehicle from Anuradhapura as many people in that area cannot understand English. Travelling to Mannar by Bus is also possible and then you can hire a vehicle from there as well. Hope this will help you.
