China and India agreed on Wednesday to work on easing their long-running border dispute, as the two Asian giants resumed a formal high-level dialogue for the first time in five years.

India and China have renewed efforts to normalize relations, emphasizing peace and stability along their contentious border. The two rivals have accused each other of trying to seize territory along their de facto border,

China and India have agreed to work toward a solution to their long-running border dispute in the Himalayas after a military standoff there that began with a deadly clash in 2020.

China has not scaled down its military presence on the border with India despite Beijing and New Delhi achieving a breakthrough in talks to resolve a standoff that began five years ago, the US said.

Troops remain deployed along the LAC amid an absence of regular political dialogue at the top level and the prevailing high levels of mistrust.

The Ministry of External Affairs, in a statement, said the SRs “provided positive directions for cross-border cooperation and exchanges including resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, data sharing on trans-border rivers and border trade”.

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman Lin Jian said a meeting between China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Wednesday reached six agreements on the boundary issue between the two.

China and India reached a six-point consensus following border talks between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and India's national security adviser Ajit Doval in Beijing on Wednesday. They agreed to "continue to take measures to maintain peace and tranquillity in the border areas and promote the healthy and stable development of bilateral relations",

China is ready to work with India to enhance mutual trust through dialogue and communication, and manage differences with sincerity and integrity, the foreign ministry said on Tuesday.

India, China Special Representatives for the border mechanism, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met to discuss a range of issues.
