By blocking a Japanese company’s takeover of U.S. Steel, President Joe Biden says he is protecting good jobs in the American heartland.

The president says the acquisition could threaten national security. Both steel companies say they will fight the decision.

Nippon Steel and U.S. Steel, in the joint statement, say they’re “dismayed by President Biden’s decision” and vow to “take all appropriate action to protect our legal rights.”
