PROVIDENCE – A man was found dead inside a downtown Providence hotel room on Sunday afternoon, according to city police. Officers responded to Hotel Providence at 139 Mathewson St. around 3:23 p.m. for a report of a person found dead, Lindsay Lague, a Providence police spokesperson, told the Globe in an email on Monday.

Law enforcement is responding to the Hotel Providence on Matthewson Street, GoLocal has learned. The incident comes a week after a car crashed into the restaurant at the hotel early on the morning of December 27. It would mark the city's first homicide of 2025.
