Reports of mysterious drone sightings across much of the northeastern United States have stoked fears and a host of conspiracy theories, but online claims that a video shows one such aircraft crashed in the state of New Jersey are false.

The Federal Aviation Administration has temporarily banned drones from flying over most of New Jersey. The restrictions, which are in effect until January 17, impact more than 22 communities across the Garden State and prevent drones from flying within one nautical mile and up to 400 feet of the restricted areas.
