An offensive foul call in the final seconds of the New York Knicks' win over the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night caused a frenzy on social media.
The Knicks escaped with a 113-111 win in Dallas on Wednesday after Brandon Williams' game-tying layup was waved off.
The late foul call put a sour ending on a game where the Mavs made 16 three-pointers and limited the Knicks to 28.6 percent (12-of-42) from three-point range. It also was a game where the Mavs were without leading scorer Cooper Flagg and reserve guard Caleb Martin, both sidelined with an illness.
Jalen Brunson had a game-high 28 points in his return from a two-game absence, Landry Shamet scored a pair of 3-pointers in the final 1:02 and drew a crucial charging foul in the final second, and the Knicks beat the Dallas Mavericks 113-111.
Brandon Williams was called for an offensive foul on what would have been a game-tying shot that forced overtime.
Cooper Flagg will be unavailable for the Dallas Mavericks in Wednesday's home game against the New York Knicks.
The New York Knicks are entering the season with expectations of making a deep run in the NBA playoffs. If they are successful in doing so and are able to make it out of the Eastern Conference, it will likely be because of the play of point guard Jalen Brunson.
Anthony Davis has been one of many sidelined for the Mavericks this year. Since he came over in the Doncic trade, he's played in 14 of a possible 51 games, which has been a theme of his career. And now that Nico Harrison is gone, many expect the Mavericks to explore trades for Anthony Davis, who clearly doesn't fit the rest of the roster.
