The Golden State Warriors and Jonathan Kuminga have been locked in a contract dispute for basically the entire offseason, but now it seems that some steam may finally be picking up. Per Anthony Slater on ESPN’s NBA Today, the two sides have started up contract negotiations once again after a long stalemate.

“Kuminga is not budging and continues to passively let it be known he does not wish to return to the Warriors. If he is to be back with Golden State, nobody expects it to be a long-term marriage, and Kuminga will make sure it’s on his terms,” Siegel wrote.

The contract standoff with Jonathan Kuminga could derail the Golden State Warriors' plans for the offseason. Kuminga has already rejected a two-year deal from the franchise, leaving Golden State with no option but to either give a lucrative deal to the restricted free agent or trade him off.

When the Golden State Warriors used the No. 7 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft to select Jonathan Kuminga, the organization's two-timeline approach appeared alive and well.

Slater suggested that Jonathan Kuminga is prepared to bet on himself by accepting the Warriors' $7.9M expiring qualifying offer.
