Gavin Williams of the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday was two outs from throwing the first no-hitter of the 2025 Major League Baseball season, but New York Mets slugger Juan Soto was not in a cooperative mood.

Cleveland Guardians pitcher Gavin Williams has held the New York Mets hitless through eight innings. The Guardians have the longest no-hitter drought in the majors. Williams has walked three and struck out five while throwing 111 pitches,

The Mets came close to recording their first hit in the seventh inning, when third baseman Mark Vientos hit a line drive to right field. Unfortunately for Vientos, Guardians right-fielder C.J. Kayfus timed the ball perfectly, making a diving stop to rob him of a base hit.
