BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The U.S. Postal Service said delivery service in the Baton Rouge area is suspended on Wednesday, Jan. 22 due to the recent winter storm that brought snow and ice to Louisiana. Normal mail delivery could resume Thursday, Jan. 23 depending on the weather and road conditions.

1. In February 1895, Baton Rouge saw its biggest snowfall to date with 12.5 inches of snow over two days. This looks to be the capital city's snow record for a long time, according to the NWS. 2. In February 1914, the city had its second largest snowfall, totaling 6 inches.

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry said the state is facing potential record snowfall that could close Mississippi River bridges from Baton Rouge to New Orleans.

Snow started falling on Monday across the Lone Star State because it wasn’t until Tuesday that records across the Gulf Coast were smashed. New Orleans officially recorded 8" of snow with plenty of reports of 8-12" around the Big Easy.
