The proposed deal would make sense for both sides. A three-year, $100 million extension would give Wilson the security he’s earned while allowing the Steelers flexibility in building their roster. But has Wilson’s performance demonstrated he’s more than a stopgap solution?

That was the case recently when Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson was asked about his future in Pittsburgh.   During the latest "Hard Knocks" episode, the cameras captured Wilson signing autographs during the opening of a Why Not You Foundation center in Pittsburgh.

The draft's weak QB class may convince the Steelers to re-sign Wilson. If they don't want to commit long-term, they could franchise-tag him. Regardless, Wilson is in a solid position. The former Seattle Seahawks star has shown why he may deserve to stay in Pittsburgh for another season.
