Tour Championship to offer official money and richest prize in golf with a $40 million purse
The Tour Championship now has the richest individual prize fund in golf with the PGA Tour making the FedExCup payoff count as official money for the first time.

In January 1987, PGA Tour commissioner Deane Beman introduced the first-ever Tour Championship—it was called the Nabisco Championship then—with these words: "We've tried various other methods, but this could be what we've been looking for–a logical, dramatic conclusion to the tour."
