Wild pigs in Monterey County were recently found to have blue-colored muscle and fat, a sign that they may have ingested toxic rodenticide bait, according to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Predators and people who eat animals that were poisoned by diphacinone can suffer "secondary exposure" to the poison because the substance can remain for a time in the organs and tissue of the animal.

"I'm not talking about a little blue, I'm talking about neon blue, blueberry blue," said the wild pig trapper who made the discovery.
