Fires across the Los Angeles area have killed at least 25 people. The Palisades and Eaton fires continue to burn in Southern California.

The Palisades Fire, which erupted on Tuesday, rapidly ballooned in size to cover more than 2,900 acres. Two new blazes—the Eaton Fire near Altadena and the Hurst Fire in Sylmar—also erupted late Tuesday. A Jewish Temple has been destroyed in Pasadena.

Free insurance workshops designed to assist Los Angeles-area residents affected by the recent wildfires are scheduled at Santa Monica College and Pasadena City College.

Evacuation orders are in place in the Pacific Palisades after a brush fire broke out in the area this morning.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who declared a state of emergency, urged residents to evacuate after he witnessed buildings destroyed by the blaze.

In a memo that has not been previously reported, chief told city fire commissioners that L.A. relied almost entirely on overburdened “hand crews” from other jurisdictions to handle its brush fire emergencies.

The Palisades fires expanded east quickly, threatening an area near the Getty Center. Gov. Gavin Newsom said he wanted answers about whether there had been enough water to fight the initial fires.

On Tuesday, Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District's (SMMUSD) four Malibu schools closed due to red flag warnings and power shutoffs in the area. The ongoing Santa Ana winds prompted the closures. This included Webster Elementary, Malibu Elementary, Malibu Middle School and Malibu High School.
