The father of a 14-year-old boy who was among four people killed at a child's birthday party in California over the weekend described trying desperately to save his son's life in the chaotic aftermath of a mass shooting that left 11 others injured.

A California family were just getting ready to cut the cake when a burst of gunfire erupted at a toddler’s birthday party over the weekend — leaving three young kids dead.

At least four people were killed, three of them children, and 11 others were wounded, according to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office.

"Every day, he would tell me, 'Dad, I love you. Dad, I appreciate you.' Every night, every morning, that boy would tell me he loved me," heartbroken father Patrick Peterson said, remembering his 14-year-old son Amari killed in the Stockton,

Fragments of joy disrupted by violence were all that remained outside the Stockton hall as authorities continued searching for suspects in a shooting that killed four people, three of them children.

Known gang members and two local rappers attended a children's birthday party that left four people dead in Stockton, including three children. Sheriff officials say they're exploring all possible motives.
