Shohei Ohtani came out of his pitching debut for the Los Angeles Dodgers in good order, even if he was his own worst critic. The two-way superstar from Japan gave up a run and a pair of two-strike hits in one inning of work Monday night against San Diego as he returned from right elbow surgery.

Ohtani’s 28-pitch inning Monday was his first in a major-league game in nearly two years. All signs point to him pitching again on Sunday against the Nationals.

It wasn’t a perfect performance by Shohei Ohtani. But Monday night’s long-awaited return to the mound marked a resounding success for Ohtani and the Dodgers nonetheless.
