When the Chicago Bears hired Ben Johnson as their head coach, it was with Caleb Williams in mind to have someone help the USC product reach his potential as a franchise quarterback. However, the offense has hit a speed bump in training camp and causing a reaction.

Williams, the former No. 1 overall pick the 2024 NFL Draft, has had a mixed camp to this point. He's flashed moments of promise but remains inconsistent, a reality Johnson has acknowledged by essentially treating him like a rookie given the overhaul from the previous regime. The Bears open the preseason next Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.
The Bears' problems last year were glaringly obvious. The offensive line stunk, the rushing attack was rather weak (or at best pedestrian) and Williams clearly had a lot of growing to do.
