The Scimitar is a highly mobile, lightweight, tracked armoured vehicle – which entered service in March of 1974. Initially the role for Scimitar was close reconnaissance and protection around the battlegroup – using its armour protection and RARDEN cannon to counter enemy light reconnaissance vehicles, hold observation positions, and provide fire support for the infantry.
