The word Balam means Jaguar in the Mayan language. I chose the name for my boy to reflect my love of wild cats and my love of Mexican culture. This was the time we decided that Balam was a house Jaguar. There are six wildcat species native to Mexico and I hope to someday work with wildcats too. If I do, it will be a dream come true and my Balam will be responsible for delivering that reality to me.
