Forsythias are just finishing blooming where I live and as with any flowering shrub or tree, it’s a good time to prune them as soon as possible after they bloom. You can be brutal with these and they recover nicely. They can get totally out of control if you don’t and as you can see, it’s sort of hard to tell that the second example was pruned at all.
